Conjunction
Con শব্দের অর্থ হচ্ছে একত্র, আর junction শব্দের অর্থ হচ্ছে সংযোগ। সুতরাং conjunction এর অর্থ হচ্ছে একত্রে সংযোগ। Conjunction সাধারণত words, phrase, clauses, sentences কে যুক্ত বা একত্রিত করে। সুতরাং বলা যায়, যে word দুই বা ততোধিক words, phrase, clauses, sentences কে যুক্ত করে তাদেরকে conjunction বলে। এমন কিছু conjunction হল: and, or, otherwise, but, unless, since, although, etc. যেমন:
I will not talk to you unless you accept the invitation.
Conjunction তিন প্রকার। যথ:
1. Coordinating Conjunction
2. Subordinating Conjunction
3. Correlative Conjunction
1. Coordinating Conjunction: যে সকল Words সমজাতীয় Words, Phrase, Clauses, Sentences কে যুক্ত করে তাদেরকে Co-ordinating Conjunction বলা হয়। যেমন:
You and I will meet him after lunch.
He is rich but miserly.

Coordinating conjuction গুলো সহজে মনে রাখার উপায় হলো, BOYSFAN সূত্রে মনে রাখা।
B = but O = or Y = yet S = so F = for A = and N = nor
2. Subordinating Conjunction: যে Conjunction গুলো subordinating clause কে principle clause/main clause এর সাথে যুক্ত করে তাদেরকে subordinating conjunction বলে। যেমন:
I know that he will come.
He did as I said.

3. Correlative Conjunction: কিছু কিছু Conjunction আছে যারা সাধারণত জোড়ায় জোড়ায় বসে, এদেরকে correlative conjunction বলে। অর্থাৎ এধরনের conjunction একটি ব্যবহৃত হলে অপরটিও বসাতে হয়, এজন্য এগুলিকে correlative conjunction বলা হয়। যেমন:
Both Habib and Rakin will go there.
Either you or your brother should come to receive the parcel.
